Yarn/beading, paintings in acrylic, and installation

GwPOW (Gulf War Prisoners of War) reflects on the Gulf War, its iconographies, and the impact on young soldiers. Using found objects and war photographs, the installation juxtaposes childhood innocence with conflict brutality, depicting cognitive confusion faced during late teens. It features a room designed like an obstacle course and arcade game, blending scaffolding, blocks, and paintings to portray the therapeutic process of overcoming war horrors.

The exhibition, titled "PowerUps," emphasizes early 90s sensibilities with vivid, comic-inspired figures and toy-like exuberance. Contrasting black obelisks and white splashes interweave with realistic images of Desert Storm artifacts, reinforcing the theme of war as an electrical spectacle with hidden costs. Paintings like "F1rst A1d" and "J3t S3t G0," draped in military tent coverings and adorned with detergent stains, toy soldiers, and plane sketches, emphasize the innocent aspects of war. Found objects, transformed with beads and yarn wefts, feature Gulf War symbols in 8-bit pixel styles, highlighting the intertwined innocence and battle scars in our collective memory.6ArtworksPress ClipsAbout / Contact / FooterGwPOW (Gulf War Prisoners of War) reflects on the Gulf War, its iconographies, and the impact on young soldiers.
